Definition: An entity responsible for making contributions to the content of the resource.
Obligation: Optional
What is this element?
This is the name of an organisation or person who has played an important role in creating the content of the resource, or has a background role in providing the service, but who is not already specified in the Creator element.
Include Contributors if they are likely to be used as a search term for the resource or if finding this resource would be useful to someone searching to find what resources that agency or person has contributed to.
This element is most useful when describing contributions to a resource with intellectual property content. A Contributor could be an illustrator, editor, modifier, etc. The contributor's role is identified by an element refinement. Although some examples of roles are included, the list is not exhaustive. Add other roles as required and advise the NZGLS maintenance agency. When adding roles, chose terms that are generally understood. Avoid using job titles as these often do not identify the role and are often changed to reflect fashions or perception.
When deciding what would be useful to include in this element, think about whether that name of an organisation or a person would be useful to retrieve the resource, or to differentiate it from some other resources. Exhaustive lists of contributors, for completeness, are not required.
Contributor and other elements
Primary credit for creation is given to up to three persons or organisations. They can be all entered under the Creator element. All other contributors, if this detail is useful for searchers, can be entered in the Contributor element.
Qualifiers

|
compiler |
someone who puts together a new resource using existing resources |
|
resourceContributor |
someone who makes available a resource to be included in this resource |

someone who determines the final content |
|

|
serviceProvider |

|

an associate who works with one of the lead contributors |
|
projectLeader |
someone who is responsible for all project deliverables |

someone who undertakes research, including interviewing people, to acquire the data described |
Note that this list is not exhaustive, should you consider additional roles are required, contact the NZGLS maintenance agency (Archives New Zealand).
Encoding schemes
The NZGLS Agent Encoding scheme is recommended. This is to encourage consistency and as guidance on an appropriate level of detail to give. See Appendix 3. Do not attempt to use all components, only enter the detail necessary.
Alternatively, enter a link to a directory, authority file or similar set of identity information.
Selected NZGLS Agent Encoding Scheme Components
The NZGLS Agent Encoding Scheme is a set of components of contact information for persons or organisations. Components are optional and should only be used when they give useful information. The components most likely to be appropriate are:
