Benefits

35 The two major benefits of this initiative are:

  • enabling, in conjunction with the Portal, the public and business to find government information and services via the Internet without having to understand the structure and functions of government; and
  • enabling improved public sector information management and service delivery capability in agencies in the longer term, thereby enhancing the quality of service in the public sector and the efficient use of taxpayers' funds devoted to developing data and information resources, and delivering services.

36 These benefits will contribute to the overall fiscal and economic benefits of the e-government programme. It should also be noted that this initiative represents a major step forward in our e-government capability, and will help put New Zealand at the forefront of international best practice in public sector information management.
