Purpose

1 In this paper I seek Cabinet agreement that use of the New Zealand Government Locator Service (NZGLS) Metadata Standard ('the NZGLS Standard') be the official New Zealand Government standard for creating discovery level metadata in the public sector. I also seek agreement to recommendations that will lead to the public sector creating NZGLS-compliant metadata records from 1 March 2002 onwards.
