1 About this document

1.1 Purpose of the document

The purpose of this document is to explain the application of the New Zealand e-Government XML Name and Address standard, NZ xNAL.

1.2 Target audience

This document was written for:

  • the New Zealand E-government XML Name and Address Working Group (xNAL WG)
  • IT strategists
  • business managers
  • software developers
  • all others applying or using NZ xNAL.

1.3 Scope of the document

This document provides practical guidelines for the application of NZ xNAL and is consistent with the NZ xNAL standard.

NOTE

The following are outside the scope of this document:
Controlled Value (vocabulary/code) List (CVL) specifications, together with the procedures to agree, extend, and manage those for the purposes of data exchange and e-services. CVLs are the subject of a discussion paper currently in draft to gain government-wide agreement on their access and management. (The CVLs discussed in Section 10 are NZ xNAL namespaces, under which go requisite CVLs.)

Selection of a particular parser, which should meet requirements to be set in the future by the New Zealand E-government Unit (EGU).
