e-GIF Management Committee Summary 15 August 2006
1. e-GIF Strategy
The Committee:
- Accepted the report back on progress (including the attachments) as a true representation of the outcomes from the e-GIF strategy meeting of 14 June 2006.
- Noted the progress that the sub-committee has achieved over the last 2 months.
- Approved the sub-committee continuing to develop the case to extend the terms of reference for the e-GIF.
- Approved the sub-committee continuing to align with the governance requirements of the revised e-government strategy.
2. NZGLS Report
The Committee:
- Noted that the Custodianship for NZGLS remain with Archives New Zealand.
- Supported, in principle, a review of the scope of the NZGLS work programme. However, widening the scope is contingent on John Roberts bringing a set of potential benefits to agencies which might result from widening the scope to the next e-GIF Management Committee meeting on 14 November 2006.
3. Microsoft Open XML and Open Document Format (ODF)
The Committee:
- Noted the ODF open standard allows agencies a choice of products. Agencies will not be tied into using a proprietary product.
- Noted the ODF open standard is available and is already widely used. However, some spreadsheet features need to be further developed. This work is due to be finalised in 2007.
4. Website Timebound Exemption – NZ Army
The Committee:
- Acknowledged the work that the NZ Army had done to meet Web Guidelines requirements and looked forward to the outcome of their review once the results from the Accessibility Audit are published.
