Finding government information and services online is now easier and faster with the upgrade of the newzealand.govt.nz website. The site was relaunched in March 2008 and contains links to all central, regional and local government-related news, information, services, reports, data and images.
It is a convenient way of finding out about government information and services in one place, without having to know which New Zealand government agency provides them. It provides an alternative to visiting an office or telephone contact with state sector agencies.
New services include:
- A ‘Smart Search Box’ that can be downloaded from newzealand.govt.nz to provide agencies’ website(s) with an all-of-government search option
- Free advertising opportunities on the home page and content pages for government agencies to promote products, services or specific campaigns to over 2 million visitors per year
- RSS feeds that provide visitors to newzealand.govt.nz with seamless access to government wide information and services
- Search spotlights on results pages can be used to highlight an agency's contact details, popular information and resources.
newzealand.govt.nz has been redesigned to reflect a sense of New Zealand – its people, culture and land. Banners representing images of land, sea, flora and nature head every page of the website.
The website page layouts are clean, simple and friendly, and provide open and easy access to information and services offered by the New Zealand government.
The search facility can access New Zealand government databases not available to other search engines. It has been extended to cover all government agencies, including those with URLs ending with.govt.nz, .mil.nz, .cri, .co.nz, .ac.nz, and .org.nz.
Users can now search for one of the 3500 Maori words available across the government web domain, and these search capabilities are expected to be expanded in the near future.
