More public sector agencies sign up to shared services
Agencies see benefits of GSN and GLS
May, 2008
The Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and Career Services have all signed on to the Government Shared Network (GSN), bringing the total number of GSN signed agencies to seventeen. The GSN is only available to state sector organisations and allows them to share information securely and cost effectively at high speeds.
Tim Occleshaw, Chief Information Officer of MSD, said "One of the key benefits of the GSN is that it will enable a standards based, secure information exchange between MSD and other agencies. This will be the Ministry's preferred method for all information exchanges with other agencies in the future."
More agencies have also recently signed onto the Government Logon Service, which is also provided by the State Services Commission. These agencies include the Crown Company Monitoring Advisory Unit, Inland Revenue Department, New Zealand Food Safety Authority and the Ministry of Justice. This has increased the total number of agencies that have signed up to the GLS to eleven.
The GLS is an all-of-government shared service to manage the logon process for online services of participating agencies. It provides people with a single logon, such as a username and password or token, to access online services provided by participating agencies in a way that enhances security and protection of the person's privacy.
Among the other agencies who have already signed up for the Government Shared Network are Department of Internal Affairs, Archives NZ, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Department of Labour, Education Review Office, Legal Services Agency, Maritime NZ, Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, State Services Commission and Te Puni Kokiri.
The Government Logon Service has had the following agencies sign up to date: Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, State Services Commission, Statistics NZ, North Shore City Council, Auckland City Council and Land Transport NZ.
