SSC issues RFP for Server & Storage solution

18 September 2006

The State Services Commission (SSC) today issued a Request for Proposal to lease or buy server and storage hardware for the e-government programme.

Laurence Millar, Deputy Commissioner Information and Communications Technology, said "this procurement is part of developing a system that will enable the integrated life-cycle management of the SSC's e-government applications. The all-of-government web portal, the Public Sector Intranet, the Public Sector Directory, and the e-government website are some of the applications that will be managed by this new system."

This integrated approach will reduce the total cost of ownership, making management of e-government applications simpler, more efficient and cheaper to maintain. It will also allow SSC to quickly respond to changing business needs and address business continuity planning and disaster recovery considerations.

"This system will significantly improve in the SSC's ability to deploy applications between development, test and production environments, across any of the system's three locations. This means that management of e-government applications will be simpler, more efficient and responsive, and at better value," Laurence Millar said.

The new solution will also provide additional functionality, including enhanced performance. It will replace the SSC's current e-government server and storage infrastructure, which was originally deployed 3 years ago.
