SecureMail Update

The SecureMail project enters a new phase with the build and test of an open source proof of concept, that is to be launched in the coming week.

SecureMail will allow email between government, businesses and people with sufficient security to protect the privacy and rights of an individual as well as the integrity of an organisation.

Over the last twelve months, the SecureMail Technical Advisory Group has refined the Business Requirements, including a proposal for an alternative design based on SSL. This alternative offers a potentially simpler, cheaper and faster implementation approach.

The SecureMail Advisory Board has supported further investigation of the SecureMail (SSL) design and research into the various IETF email authentication standards being developed.

A small working group has developed the SecureMail (SSL) concept. It is premised on the use of SPF for email authentication, and SSL for confidentiality.
