Authentication Shared Keys implementation
8 September 2004
The all-of-government Authentication programme has begun the Initial Implementation Phase.
There has been important progress in the completion of detailed plans for the next phase of the programme and the team is currently seeking Government approval to commence the initial implementation of the Shared Keys trial early next year.
The programme over the coming months includes scoping of the authentication standards project, concurrent work being undertaken by the Department of Internal Affairs and issuing the Request for Proposal for the construction of the Shared Keys infrastructure.
In addition to the implementation of Shared Keys, the programme will deliver:
- a strategy for the roll-out of all-of-government shared keys and shared identity credentials
- authentication-related standards for all-of-government, including Evidence of Identity standards being led by the Department of Internal Affairs, and an authentication capability to help implement these standards, and
- a report by the Department of Internal Affairs on the ability of government to leverage its existing systems to create an authentication infrastructure.
