E-government Update
Welcome to @your.service, a regular round up of e-government news from New Zealand.
We aim to reach a broad audience, including government people, suppliers of IT and telecommunications services, people in the community who are following the progress of e-government, as well as international audiences.
Issue 10 - June 2004
Shared Workspace open for business
Collaborative work within and across government departments is becoming much easier with ten Shared Workspaces now up and running.
Feedback from the users, about 550 people, has been overwhelmingly positive.
All cite the convenience and security provided by the workspaces as being key factors in their value and utility.
The workspaces are being used by a variety of groups: one is a local government group, another has members spread throughout NZ and the rest are based in the Wellington area.
There are half a dozen more groups looking at joining - including a regional council and a government agency sponsored community group.
Following the success of the workspaces, there has been an increasing number of enquiries about the government intranet.
By late July a design will be shown to interested groups and agencies to get feedback before the development of the intranet begins.
A reminder that there is no charge to use a prototype workspace service - you just have to provide feedback on whether you find the prototype to be a useful tool.
Currently, there are two Shared Workspace prototypes: Quickplace from Lotus Notes and the Discussion List (used for simplifying email-based collaboration). The MS SharePoint is no longer a prototype, and is available on an annual fee basis.
