Round 2 e-awareness survey results published

23 February 2004

The second round of the electronic survey of government agencies was completed in October 2003.

The survey charts the growth of e-government projects, with 26 more e-government initiatives being undertaken by agencies since Round 1. This round also marks the first time that both Public Service and non-Public Service departments participated in this survey.

58% of the respondents reported that they had adapted their strategy and plans to meet the New Zealand Governments E-government Strategy, indicating a consolidation in focus and direction for e-government initiatives.

Some other points of interest to emerge from Round 2 include: that the majority of initiatives are driven by a drive for improved efficiency /cost effectiveness and improved quality of service. Top issues include understanding customer needs and the challenges of cross-agency collaboration, and the bulk of the initiatives are geared towards on-line services and data security.

In response to feedback from agencies, the EGU is developing an application that will allow improved searching on aspects of completed initiatives. This application, available in a few weeks time - will provide better awareness of agency projects.
