Syndicated Procurement Unit launched

23 February 2004

The State Services Commission has officially established the Procurement Unit (SP.u), with the appointments of Phil Weir and Andrew McLean to the unit, to capitalise upon the success of its predecessor, the Syndicated Procurement Project.

SP.u operates as a facilitator and knowledge base so that syndicated procurement deals can be more widely communicated and promoted to government agencies and other entities. This enables participants in the network to share knowledge, skills and to combine their buying power, thereby incurring significant savings.

There are currently 40 agencies participating in the network.

2003 was a very successful year for the programme, with all members reporting increased savings and benefits in knowledge and relationships arising from their participation. That number is expected to grow over 2004. Consequently, opportunities for savings and other benefits to the participants are similarly expected to increase.
