E-government Update

Welcome to @your.service, a regular round up of e-government news from New Zealand.

We aim to reach a broad audience, including government people, suppliers of IT and telecommunications services, people in the community who are following the progress of e-government, as well as international audiences.

Issue 12 - December 2004

www.govt.nz upgraded for improved visitor experience

The all-of-government web portal, www.govt.nz, has been upgraded to ensure that visitors to the site are able to access the information they are looking for even more easily. The site, which contains all you need to know about government information and services, was first launched in 2002 and currently has an average of 22,000 visitors a week.

In order to further enhance these visitors' experience and improve access to information, a number of significant changes and improvements have been made to the new version. From early December, visitors will be able to:

  • Find services and the online version (full text) of the legislation which mandates them
  • Be able to link through to all services "owned" by an individual government agency
  • View the hierarchical structure of agencies and their component units
  • View when information on the portal was last updated

Other improvements from a design perspective include:

  • Fonts are larger and applied consistently
  • Search box is larger and in a more prominent position
  • Clearer pagination on search results
  • A much improved layout of the News area

These enhancements follow on the upgrade to Metalogue, the metadata tool for www.govt.nz, completed in August 2004.
