International reports feature New Zealand e-government activity

August 2002

Hot on the heels of a recent UN report that ranked New Zealand third in the world for e-government, another worldwide report focussing on local e-government will feature case studies from three New Zealand cities: Dunedin, Auckland and Lower Hutt.

Each city demonstrates e-government transformation to achieve one of the three common elements of e-government: customer service; internal efficiency and citizen engagement.

Dunedin City Council is featured as an example of whole-scale transformation into a 24-hour customer-driven organisation with a single corporate knowledge centre.

Auckland shows how a rigorous methodology has been applied to the development of shared services between the eight councils in that region providing more efficient service delivery.

Citizen engagement is demonstrated by Hutt City Council’s community portal as part of its comprehensive e-government programme.

The full report is due to be published in August 2002.
