Authentication project builds on ground work
October 2001
Online authentication is as much about the proof and protection of identity, as ensuring that e-services are delivered to the right person.
In April 2001 work began to gather background information for a draft policy framework for authentication (see Issue 1). The second phase of the Authentication Project, which will be completed by late November, has two strands. The first will continue exploring the needs, risks and technologies for authentication. The second will start a dialogue with a range of stakeholders to identify views, issues and priorities that need to be taken into account in developing the framework. Government agencies, community and citizen advocacy groups, and industry organisations have been invited to contribute to this process.
A briefing paper will be presented to the Minister of State Services in November.
