Cascading style sheets (CSS)
Usually separate text files that specify the appearance (CCS1) and sound (CSS2) of web pages. They "cascade" in the sense that one style can override another, so that users can change the appearance or sound of web pages to suit their need.
Central agencies
The collective term for three departments: the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Treasury and the State Services Commission.
Central Government
The legislative and executive arms of Government, i.e. Parliament and its offices, Cabinet, and the State sector. Those elected in triennial general elections and the institutions directly accountable to them, whose authority covers the entire country. As distinct from 'local government'.
Certificate
In SecureMail, a Digital Certificate is a digital representation of information which at least (1) identifies the certification authority issuing it, (2) names or identifies its Subscriber, (3) contains the Subscriber's public key, (4) identifies its operational period, and (5) is digitally signed by the certification authority issuing it. A Digital Certificate is a data structure used in a public key system to bind a particular, authenticated individual to a particular public key.
Certificate Authority
Issues Certificates to Government Agencies, SecureMail Service Providers and Businesses that have an accredited Gateway.
Channel
Means of gaining access to government services (eg. counter, postal, telephone, Internet).
CIO
Chief Information Officer. The top executive in charge of Information Technology. CIOs typically oversee development of the enterprise IT strategy and architecture, alignment of IT with the business strategy; internal and external IT sourcing; and the development of an IT governance framework that defines the working relationships and sharing of IT components among various IT groups within the enterprise.
Collaboration Leader
Agency group that has requested a secure space for sharing information in the Shared Workspace. They invite others to use that space as they need to. They take responsibility for the information being shared and who has access to that information.
Collection-Level Record
A record describing a whole collection rather than each individual item in the collection, where the collection itself is treated as a resource - for example a photographic collection of images, or the home page made for an on-line service.
Component
A component can be either hardware, software or a process that delivers a piece of functionality within a system. Related components can be grouped together to form a 'subsystem'.
Connectivity
The ability to use an electronic network to send and receive information between any locations, devices or business services.
Consultation
A category of participation that refers to a two-way relationship based on consultation with feedback sought on pre-defined issues.
Content
1. On the Internet, content refers to the content of websites. 2. In Metalogue, content refers to what's actually in a resource, or what the resource is about.
Controlled Value List (CVL)
A finite list of terms, each one having a prescribed meaning, designed for use in classifying, indexing and searching documents. The term "Value" in CVL is primarily used in connection with XML programming, where is interchangeable with "Code". For records-management environments, the term "Vocabulary" is typically used.
Cookies
Small text files sent by web servers to your computer when you request certain files. A code in this text file uniquely identifies, or "registers" the user and can be accessed for a number of marketing and site-tracking purposes.
Creator
In Metalogue this refers to the creator of the content of a resource.
Credential
1. Data that is transferred to establish a claimed principal identity. 2. A form of identification that can be used online which confirms you are who you say you are. Credentials are issued only after your identity has been authenticated in the registration process.
