Chapter 6 - Recommendations
Be clear, brief, and logical
The recommendations must be clear, without ambiguity and identify the ‘best’ of the options presented. They should not try to restate arguments already set out in the business case.
The recommendations should be:
- as brief as possible, consistent with the need to explain a complex proposal, and
- arise directly and logically from the work and evaluations provided earlier in the business case.
Why this option
Particular emphasis should be provided on why one option is recommended, leaving no doubt as to how to address the described problem/opportunity.
Format
The recommendations are not required to be in Cabinet paper format, although this general approach could be adopted, particularly since it may help with the later construction of a Cabinet paper, should this be necessary.
