Web Guidelines Working and Advisory Groups

Web Guidelines Working and Advisory Groups

The State Services Commission established a Web Guidelines Working Group in August 2005, and a Web Guidelines Advisory Group in September 2005. The Working Group will complete a review of the Web Guidelines. The Advisory Group will provide a Quality Assurance role by reviewing the documents produced by the Working Group.

The review of the Web Guidelines has been divided into two phases.

The first phase was completed Sept 05 – Dec 05, and delivered Agencies a self-audit checklist including examples where possible.

The second phase (Feb 06 – Dec 06) will complete an in-depth review of the Web Guidelines and produce the next version (v3.0). This phase will include public consultation in September 2006. The new version will ensure new and emerging Web technologies are considered and included where relevant. The information listed below relates to the second phase.

Scope

The scope of the Advisory and Working Groups includes:
  • Reviewing previous stances taken on interpreting the guidelines and agreeing new stances
  • Review content of guidelines to improve clarity and remove any conflict of information
  • Review the principles underlying the guidelines to ensure that they still apply and add any principles that will enhance understanding of existing Web Guidelines
  • Indicate elements of the Web Guidelines that do not improve the user experience and are expensive to meet
  • Develop version 3.0 of Web Guidelines

  • Include relevant new internet technology capabilities
  • Determine how Version 3.0 will be presented on website
  • Develop version 2 of self audit checklist

Excluded from scope

The scope of Phase II activities for the group excludes:

  • Approval for agency exemptions from the Web Guidelines (this is an e-GIF Management Committee role)
