Appendix 4 - NZGLS Audience Vocabulary

Audience term

Scope note

All

Default value; general public; the whole population.

Business

People or corporations engaged in commerce, trade or industry. This includes self-employed people.

Caregivers

People or organisations engaged in the care of others, e.g. children, older people, people with disabilities or illnesses. Use 'Parents' for resources aimed at mothers, fathers or legal guardians.

Children

People aged up to 14 years. Use 'Youth' for resources aimed at people aged 14-25 years.

Community groups

Groups who provide services to, or represent the views of, specific community sectors.

Employees

People working for another person or organisation for pay. Use 'Jobseekers' for resources designed to assist people seeking employment.

Employers

People or organisations who employ others for wages.

Jobseekers

People seeking employment, whether currently employed or unemployed. Use 'Employees' for resources of relevance to people already in employment.

Māori

People who identify with the Māori ethnicity with or without other ethnicities.

Men

Adult males.

Migrants

People moving permanently from one country to another. Includes resources for people from non-English-speaking backgrounds or who have English as a second language.

Older people

Typically people 65 years of age and older.

Pacific Islanders

People who identify with a Pacific ethnicity (e.g. Samoan, Tongan, Fijian) with or without other ethnicities. This does not equate to a birthplace description.

Parents

People fulfilling a mother, father or guardian role in the care of children, whether by birth, adoption or other legal arrangement.

People with disabilities

People with a physical or mental impairment, either permanent or temporary.

Rural community

People or organisations living or working in regional, remote or isolated areas of New Zealand.

Students

People of any age who are studying for an academic qualification or for their own educational development

Visitors to New Zealand

People visiting New Zealand for a specific purpose, e.g. work, study, holiday. Use 'Migrants' for people relocating permanently.

Women

Adult females

Youth

People aged 14-25 years. Use 'Children' for resources aimed at people under the age of 14 years.
