8. Use of FONZ and SONZ

There was discussion on the limitations of the FONZ and SONZ. It was noted that these thesauri were developed to suit the requirements of describing Government resources to the public. They will not be universally appropriate. It was agreed that the requirement to use FONZ and SONZ should be as indicated in the draft specification: "Resources being described within the NZ Government should use the FONZ or SONZ. Use of these encoding schemes is mandatory for metadata prepared for use by the NZ Government Portal."
