Working Group Establishment

The State Services Commission (SSC) established a working group of government agency representatives to oversee the development of a government function thesaurus.  The XML namespace for third tier names should be more in line with functional purpose than specific agency name or brand.

Pilot Testing

SSC has installed an object registry and object repository as a proof of concept exercise. The registry will store, manage and retrieve NZ government XML obects so that SSC can refine the namespace structure further.

SSC is testing the suitability of a variety of open-source repository tools, including Open LDAP Administration, Fedora and Greenstone.

Namespace Assignment Process

SSC is developing policies, procedures and tools to assign names to other New Zealand organisations under the top level name, NZL.
