Sensitive Shared Workspace Trial

What is a Sensitive Shared Workspace?

The Sensitive Shared Workspace is an online collaboration service that supports groups sharing information and resources rated at the NZ government classification of Sensitive.

It has been developed to assist:

  • Secure interagency collaboration
  • The sharing of Sensitive work in progress
  • The sharing of expertise, experience and good practice.

The Sensitive Shared Workspace Trial has used similar tools and processes to the currently operating Shared Workspaces.

How is Sensitive Shared Workspace different?

  • Requires two-factor authentication
  • Systems and personnel are certified to Sensitive level.

What is the purpose of the Sensitive Shared Workspace Trial?

The Sensitive Workspace Trial has been developed to help the State Services Commission (SSC) find out whether there are sufficient business requirements to warrant providing a workspace rated at the Sensitive level.

During this trial period SSC will be assessing:

  • The technology being used
  • The level of demand for the service
  • The usability of a Sensitive-rated workspace

The Sensitive Shared Workspace will only be available to the Public Sector if the trial is successful.

How secure is the Sensitive Shared Workspace?

The workspace infrastructure and traffic to and from the workspace is secured for information classified up to and including Sensitive level. The reasons for securing information at this level are to protect; the economy of New Zealand; government negotiations; safety of individuals; and confidentiality.

An appropriate level of security is achieved through a two-factor authentication process when a user logs in. This involves combining secure tokens with username/password authentication to provide extra security. The secure token is a small device that can be attached to a key ring. It randomly generates a one-time number that changes every 60 seconds. No software is required by the user in order to operate this device.

Enquiries and expressions of interest

The aim of the trial is to discover the level of demand for an online tool that allows Sensitive information to be shared between agencies. During the trial period please contact SSC if this service could assist your group or agency. Contact details can be found in the toolkit at the top of the page.
