11 Approach by other countries

11.1.1 Canada and Australia have centralised policy on the use of PKI. Due to Canada's very early involvement in PKI, it has developed very prescriptive documentation on all of a CAs operation. Australia has a future focused policy unit, and a lengthy accreditation process for private sector CAs that would supply certificates to government agencies.

11.1.2 The US has a central policy group focused on interoperability among CAs, but agencies are generally left to their own devices.

11.1.3 Ireland and the Netherlands are just beginning to explore PKI.

11.1.4 Our proposed approach is closest to Australia's but with a simplified accreditation process.
