Using your credentials
- Within this section:
- Having different roles
Once you have successfully completed the registration process and received your credentials, you can present them every time you want to access a secure online government service.
The agency providing the service (service agency) will check with the authentication agency that your credentials are valid. If they are, the authentication agency may provide to the service agency - with your consent - information relevant to the delivery of that service.
Authentication agency
The government agency or agencies responsible for establishing the identity of the person registering to use an online government service.
The authentication agency is not necessarily the same as the agency providing the service - the service agency.
An important point to make is that having credentials to identify you to online services does not automatically entitle you use the service. For example, some services may have special conditions such as your being resident in a particular area.
Having different roles
Having credentials that identify you personally is one thing, but many of us have several different roles in life. You might, for example, be the secretary of a club or a registered company. So it is possible that you might have several credentials, depending on the roles you might have.
