About this document

This document summarises the proposed process design for all-of-government online authentication. It is intended for readers who already have some knowledge of the Authentication Project and who are seeking further detail of what the all-of-government solution would look like.

The document builds on the Authentication Blueprint to:

  • provide a background to online authentication;
  • define the main concepts used to describe the online authentication processes; and
  • set out the core business processes and implementation details.

As this document focuses on the core business processes, it does not summarise the proposed processes relating to financial structures, costings, governance models, or technical implementation.

It is important to note that the design work summarise in this document WILL evolve and be refined as other project activity, such as policy work and the independent review of privacy implications, is completed.

Readers who are unfamiliar with the E-government Unit's Authentication Project should refer to "Blueprint - Authentication for e-government", July 2003 for more information.
